Rafael Marquez Omitted From Barcelona Squad To Face Getafe - Report

Friday, September 11, 2009

While Andres Iniesta has been passed fit by the Barcelona medical team and could play some part against Getafe tomorrow, 30-year-old defender Rafael Marquez has been overlooked by Pep Guardiola.

Sport are reporting that although the Mexican has been cleared to play by the Blaugrana medical staff, Guardiola has decided not to select him for tomorrow's clash.

Marquez hasn't featured in a competitive game for four months now after a number of injuries, but should make his comeback to the first team next week.

Meanwhile, summer signing Dmytro Chygrynskiy has been selected by the Barcelona coach for the trip to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. According to Sport, however, the Ukrainian is unlikely to play as he has only trained a handful of times under Guardiola.

The Blaugrana face Getafe at 18.00 CET on Saturday evening before their Champions League clash with Inter next Wednesday.
