Sylvinho says he has been passing on some of the tips and secrets that helped lead Barcelona to a unique treble, after being quizzed by his new Manchester City team-mates.
The Citizens have spent big to rebuild their squad but the Brazilian arrived on a free transfer when he left the Blaugrana at the end of last season and his advice could be invaluable.
With preparations for the Manchester derby against United at Old Trafford on Sunday well under way, Sylvinho thinks that his advice and big match experience will be vital.
"They've not just asked questions about the Champions League, they recognise what Barcelona did in the last season, which was amazing," he was quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
"That season was like a dream. If you want to live a dream then, first and foremost, you have to believe the dream can happen and believe in your work. You have to live it and have trust in your dream.
"You have to work so hard. If you don't, you won't win. But there are players who have come here with great experience of Champions League football and important matches and I think that will really help the club."
On the matter of City playing United, Sylvinho sees no reason why the visitors cannot pull off a win that would send out a strong message to the rest of the league.
"Yes, even a few weeks ago City beat Barcelona. It's a strong side with a good mentality. Of course, we still have to improve things but we're an important club in Europe today," he continued.
"I think we'll have more confidence playing United now that we've beaten Arsenal. But it's difficult to compare City with United. Both teams have good sides and good players but live in a different moment. We are at a different stage of our development to United.
"This season is going to be very important to us. We have got a target and some good players coming and the mentality of the club has changed a lot. Players have come here because they feel it's a good time to be here."
