Manchester City To Fend Off Barcelona's Robinho Interest

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Manchester City are preparing to rebuff any efforts by Barcelona to tempt them into selling Robinho in the January transfer window as they will not be buying themselves.

The Blaugrana have made it clear that the Brazilian forward is a player who they are interested in signing, and reports in England suggest that the player is open to the switch too.

It has also been rumoured that manager Mark Hughes could consider allowing Robinho to go if he were able to bring in some of the star names he has been linked with.

That is not the case, according to the Manchester Evening News, as City are not preparing to go on a winter spending spree and will look to keep their current crop of stars.

"There has been talk about us having a meeting with Barca in early December, but it is nonsense," a source told the newspaper.

"So is all the stuff about chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak telling Mark Hughes he has unlimited funds.

"Khaldoon said a few weeks ago that we had crammed three years of spending into a couple of summer months, and that remains the case.

"Obviously you never say never, and if a player does become available in January who we feel will help our cause, we will take a look at him."
