Wednesday, November 4, 2009

Rubin Kazan caused what can be considered another surprise result by holding the European champions. Goal.com watched the game and awarded each player a mark out of ten.

RPL: Christian Ansaldi - Rubin

RUBIN

Ryzhikov - 7
: Commanded his area and his defence superbly as the home side ensured that he had as little to do as possible.

Salukvadze - 7.5: Barcelona were unable to produce many crosses and that is all credit to the hosts' full-backs.

Sharonov - 8: A rock in the centre of the Rubin defence as he helped to organise the two lines of four that kept the Blaugrana out.

Cesar Navas - 7.5: The former Real Madrid youth team player would do well back at the Santiago Bernabeu playing like he did tonight.

Ansaldi - 7.5: In such a great defensive display it is difficult to pick out a star performer but he was one of the best.

Ryazantsev - 6.5: Was able to offer an outlet when his defenders won the ball and then tracked back to join the back four in keeping Barcelona out.

Noboa - 6.5: Sat in front of the defence and put in several great tackles to prevent Barcelona from finding space.

Semak - 7.5: A captain's performance as he made sure that the four players in front of the defence stayed doing their jobs throughout.

Kaleshin - 7: Outstanding when moving forward and provided a number of good creative passes in the second half, in particular.

Karadeniz - 6.5: May have scored the winner two weeks ago in Barcelona, but unable to repeat that here as he was not given the chances.

Dominguez - 8: An outstanding individual performance on his own up front for the home team and even more interest will be generated in him.

Subs

Bukharov - 6: Had at least two great chances to give Rubin a glorious win, but was unable to convert either of them.

BARCELONA

Valdes - 7.5
: Did not have much to do for so long, but showed just how good he is by making a stunning first-half save and several more after the break.

Alves - 5.5: Worked tirelessly but not one of his better performances as he gave the ball away too often and did not supply much for Ibrahimovic.

Pique - 6: Was lucky to not be booked and appeared to be unsettled by Rubin in the second half when they broke forward.

Puyol - 6.5: A good display from the skipper as he made some crucial tackles and clearances when Dominguez and Bukharov ran at him.

Abidal - 6: Did not move up field as much as he may have liked but was relied upon to sit back to prevent counterattacks.

Toure - 7: A rock in the middle as he won back the ball on many occasions and just fed it to the creative midfielders.

Xavi - 6.5: Worked hard to find some gaps, but was denied time and space to feed the forwards.

Keita - 6: Unable to repeat his goalscoring exploits of recent weeks and he too was kept quiet by the busy home defence.

Messi - 5.5: Rubin identified the Argentinian as the player to keep quiet and they did just that as he was unable to consistently test them.

Ibrahimovic - 6.5: Held the ball up well and had a great chance to score in the first half, but was another player who was unable to move in the Rubin area.

Iniesta - 6.5: Creative and full of running, he appeared to enjoy his role on the left even though he was well marked.

Subs

Henry - 4: Had two chances in the short time he was on the pitch and could not take advantage of either.
