Barcelona defender Rafa Marquez has settled doubts over his future by signing a new two-year contract with the club.

Marquez's contract was due to expire at the end of the season, leading to suggestions that he could sign for MLS side New York Red Bulls on a free transfer in the summer.

However, the club's official website has revealed that the 30-year-old has signed a new deal until June 30, 2012, and the Mexican was delighted to have finally put pen to paper.

"I'm very happy to renew at a club where I really feel valued," he enthused.

"[I have to] recover my best form in order to try and get back into the first team, although the competition is tough. I believe that I still have a lot of chances to be in the starting XI."

Marquez signed for the Blaugrana in 2003 and has made 227 appearances in all competitions for the club. Only nine foreign players have made more appearances for Barcelona than the Mexican, with Philip Cocu holding the record at 292.

The Spanish champions have recently been negotiating new contracts with a number of their players, including Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta and Eric Abidal.
