Aliaksandr Hleb has admitted that he has taken a backward step in his career by playing for VfB Stuttgart after joining the Bundesliga side on loan from Barcelona.
"It's true that I have taken a step back in my career, but sometimes it's necessary to take one step back to take two steps forward. Let's see how the season goes," Hleb reflected.
The Belarus international joined Barca from Arsenal in 2008 for an initial fee of €15 million but failed to make a telling impact at Camp Nou, something that he admits was difficult to cope with.
"It was hard to resign myself to not getting game time, but if the team wins every game, how can you complain to the coach?" Sport quoted Hleb as saying.
Although he is now at VfB Stuttgart, Hleb says he could have been wearing the Nerrazzuri shirt after almost joining Inter during the summer.
"I was practically an Inter player. I was in Milan but my agent closed a deal with Stuttgart, a team I love very much because I spent five years there before joining Arsenal," he added.
