Barcelona Want New Deals For Star Men Lionel Messi & Carles Puyol

Txiki Begiristain may have had a busy summer at Barcelona, but he has yet more work to do with the club, who are hoping to tie down their current stars to new long-term deals.

The Blaugrana technical secretary is on holiday after spending the last few months trying to sign the players who coach Pep Guardiola and he had identified as necessary.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Maxwell and Dmytro Chygrynskiy joined Barca, while several first team members left the club, and Begiristain can look back on a job well done.

Sporting director Jaume Ferrer now believes that there is one more job to be done: renewing the contracts of players such as Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Carles Puyol.

"Renewing the contracts of Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta is vital," Ferrer told Sport. "Txiki Begiristain is now on a well-deserved holiday, but this must be done soon.

"Carles Puyol is a symbol of Barca. He's a player who is part of the club and has always shown his commitment. He is a great professional.

"The technical staff should work to make sure Carles Puyol finishes his career at FC Barcelona."
