Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined Barcelona from Inter earlier this summer in a move that saw Samuel Eto'o move in the other direction, but Johan Cruyff believes it was good business on the part of the Spanish and European champions.
"The signing of the Swedish forward is not just a change of picture cards," the former Barcelona player and coach told Sport.
"It means that the dynamics of a treble-winning team will change so that the player can be integrated. And this will be a big motivation for everyone. It's what Pep [Guardiola] wanted," Cruyff insisted.
"With Ibrahimovic, the ways in which you can work are multiplied. Technically, you can go out and play a short passing game; physically, you can fight for longer [and], in terms of height, it should allow for more crosses to be put into play."
Cruyff also commented on the current predicaments of the Portuguese and Argentine national teams, and is wary that South Africa could be without two of the world's best players next summer.
"With three games left for the majority of teams to know whether they will go to the World Cup or not, it should not escape our notice that two of the world's stars could be left out: Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo."
