Rising through the ranks of a European club is one thing, but to do so for a storied side such as Barcelona is quite another, Barcelona youngster Jonathan Dos Santos said.
The young Mexican will play with the Barcelona B team after a successful run in the youth ranks.
“To know that (Josep) Guardiola is observing you is very motivating,” Jonathan Dos Santos admitted in an interview to Record newspaper.
The younger brother of Giovani Dos Santos and a standout at the Barcelona youth divisions, Jonathon Dos Santos is being targeted as the next prospect to make the switch to the senior team.
“Luckily his interest in not new," the youngster continued. "He has been observing us since the start of the season. That is his way of working, he likes to bet on the young players, he has observed me, my teammates, and it is a great joy that at the end of our campaign he became more interested in our squad, and I am grateful that he has been keeping tabs on me.”
“That is motivation to keep working hard and soon make the switch to the senior team,” explained Dos Santos who last season guided Barcelona’s Juvenil A squad to two championships as the team’s captain and leading goal scorer.
So far, the young Dos Santos said he has enjoyed a tremendous season.
“This has been my best year, it is a season in which early on I clearly marked my objectives and one of them was to score many goals, to open up, because in past campaigns I did not have the luck to do so, that is why I knew that would be important for my career; to not just give assists but also be more willing to shoot and find the back of that net. That is something that has given me much confidence,” continued the youngest of the Dos Santos clan.
Despite not having progressed at the same rate as other Blaugrana standouts the 19-year-old midfielder remains clam that he will soon get his opportunity, and unlike his older brother, is patiently waiting for his turn with the senior team. “I know that my future is in Barcelona, I have spoken with the club, with my family, that everything that I have received here no other club could grant, they have treated me very good and this is a place I could remain all of my life,” explained Dos Santos.
“I am very content with all the support I have received from the trainers, the directives, and I hope to remain that way,” concluded Jonathan, whose promotion to the Barcelona B team leaves him one step behind fulfilling his objective of playing with the big boys.
