LA Galaxy Want Barcelona Defender Rafael Marquez

MLS outfit LA Galaxy are interested in signing Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez for next season, according to a report in Spanish publication Sport.

The Californian side are believed to have identified the Mexican international as a replacement for their marquee player, David Beckham, if the England midfielder leaves the club.

30-year-old Marquez has missed the start of Barcelona's season after picking up an injury during the Blaugrana's pre-season tour of the United States and may find his playing time at Camp Nou limited following the arrival of Dmytro Chygrynskiy from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Barcelona also have captain Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique currently playing in the centre of their defence and also have Argentinian defender Gabriel Milito recovering from a long term injury, while French full-back Eric Abidal stated earlier this week that he has a preference for a role in the centre as well.

Marquez may be tempted to consider a move away from Catalunya. Galaxy are also believed to be interested in veteran Blaugrana striker Thierry Henry.
