Joan Laporta threatened the president of Extremadura and called him an "imbecile" during an enraged telephone call after being accused of using Barcelona as a springboard for his political ambitions.
Guillermo Fernandez Vara, a self-confessed Barca supporter, made an appeal in his regular Marca column to the Camp Nou president, asking him to stop talking about Catalan independence.
Fernandez Vara explained his love of Barcelona in his article in August, but stated he was unhappy with Laporta making it all about Catalunya when their are thousands of the club's fans from outside the region.
"Visca el Barca and Visca Catalunya. Viva Espana also, if you will allow me that," the Extremaduran politician wrote to Laporta in the piece.
Laporta's response was to phone Fernandez Vara, according to El Mundo Deportivo, and accuse him of being "imbecile" and "a terrible Barca fan".
"Visca to a free Catalunya," he is also reported to have shouted. "Write about Barcelona, but do not write about me ever again or I'll show you."
