Txiki Begiristain has stated that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has given Barcelona an added dimension upfront and said it was vital that the Blaugrana sold Samuel Eto'o.
The club's technical secretary has been delighted by the Swedish striker's effect on the team. Having arrived from Inter in a mammoth swap deal involving Eto'o in the summer, Begiristain heaped praise on the powerful forward.
"He has brought something that Barcelona have not had for seven years; a centre forward with great technique and a prodigious physique," he was quoted as saying by Sport.
"Zlatan is a number nine that creates space. He has the football culture of Ajax, which is so similar to Barca's, and the capacity to work that was required to succeed in Italy.
"The sum of all these virtues makes Ibrahimovic a spectacular forward."
Guardiola spoke about having a 'feeling' when asked why he wanted to sell Eto'o in the summer and Begiristain has now stated that the club had to sell the forward.
"For Barca it was fundamental to change Eto'o for another centre forward," he continued.
"In the entire European market Inter was the best club for him. They are Italian champions, they play in the Champions League and they can pay him what he demands.
"We then had a place free to sign a player that was a priority for Pep Guardiola."
