Barca's show of confidence has persuaded their captain to stay at Camp Nou...
Carles Puyol has officially put pen-to-paper on a new deal at Barcelona that will keep him at the club until 2013 after he was tempted to stay despite several offers from abroad.
The Blaugrana captain's previous contract was due to run out at the end of the current campaign and he has admitted that he investigated what was on offer elsewhere.
While clubs such as Chelsea, Arsenal, Inter and AC Milan were all reported to be keen on securing Puyol's services, he was persuaded to stay at Barca by the confidence that his employers showed in him.
Despite questioning his role in Pep Guardiola's team, 'Puyi' now looks set to stay at the club for his entire career and he is delighted.
"I'm thrilled with the confidence the club has shown in me," he was quoted as saying by Sport.
"The fans here also played a huge part in my decision.
"They've always been behind me through good moments and bad."
