Joan Laporta: Barcelona Will Boost Lionel Messi's Confidence

Friday, September 11, 2009

Joan Laporta is confident that Barcelona's players will help Lionel Messi recover from a tough week away with Argentina.

The Blaugrana president has recognised that his star player will have been deflated by defeats against Brazil and Paraguay that saw him criticised by the media and fans.

Claims that Messi does not play as well for the Albiceleste as he does for Barca have hurt the player and Pep Guardiola may rest him this weekend depending on his fitness levels.

Messi has played 27 games in the last 99 days and it appears to have taken its toll on him as he was unable to lift Argentina and that saw his commitment questioned.

Laporta thinks that returning to Barcelona will allow Messi to put it all behind him though and he can train his thoughts solely on helping the club to maintain their good start to the season.

"Messi will come back feeling sad, but his team-mates will give him a lift so that he can bounce back and start thinking about Barca again," Sport quote him as saying.

"He will have plenty of time to focus on Argentina when the time comes."
