Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez could soon become involved in the Mexican Primera Division as part of a group attempting to buy out struggling Atlas.
Los Zorros are currently sitting in mid-table in Mexico's Apertura championship, but Mexican newspaper Record believes that their fortunes could soon be improved by new owners.
Marquez was invited to take part in the project by Alejandro Fernandez, a Mexican singer, who is being backed financially by Mexican businessman Guillermo Romo.
A bid has been made, and the club reportedly have one month to decide whether or not to accept the offer.
Marquez started his career with Atlas before leaving for French side Monaco in 1999. He is not the only former Atlas player currently plying his trade in the Primera Division, as Deportivo La Coruna duo Andres Guardado and Diego Colotto both had spells with the Mexican club.
